Dear Service:
I am a floatplane pilot in Seattle and this the second headset I've modified with one of your kits. I fly Dehavilland Beavers and your noise canceling modules are some of the only that don't cut out on take-off with the immense noise or a radial engine. The headset enclosed was modified with your kit around two years ago by myself and was in good working order up until last August. Where one day, half of the noise canceling just stopped working. I removed the ear cup seals and tried re-wiring the basic connections and had no luck. So with that said "broken, please fix".
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Isaac Gaspar

Hi Brooks, I just wanted to follow up after a couple of flights with my now modified Peltor headset including the gear that you shipped ( worked well ) to me. The ANR mods are much better than I had hoped for. I modified my Peltor headset with the ANR modules, auto-off battery box, new cable and the gelled earpieces. Even the gelled earpieces make a significant difference in noise and comfort but the ANR is fantastic. The amount of propeller noise reduction is amazing. Almost all of the piston/prop noise in my 172 is gone with ANR on. Yesterday I was taxiing to the active and had not turned the unit on yet. It seemed nice and quiet but then I realized I had not powered up. Pushed the switch on and it is like someone cups your years with bowls.
Well worth the money and you guys do a great job in customer communications pre and post sale as well as the quality of the kits. Highly recommended.
Pass my thanks around if you would.

Richard,
Just received the reworked DC 10-40 and the extra parts. Those boom screws are great. Very much appreciate your work and especially appreciate the quick turn around. Looking forward to using all the ones you have done.
I'm still laughing at the old military helicopter headset you found the ear covers for.
I did not notice at first, but I see that someone installed the boom turn screw on them ... thanks. My best,

Hi there,
I put one of your units into my Peltor 9 years ago and I've been really happy with it and a real promoter of your product. The wires to the battery and the battery box now need to be replaced. I live in Victoria
Canada (by Vancouver). Could you give me prices for the battery box and cable and also for your new "all in one" cable and battery box.
Thanks,

About two months ago I installed your ANR kit in my 20 year old RST kit-built headset. Making the modification went smoothly and my fine old headset is now fantastic. I should have modified it years ago.
Since about 1995, 1 have also owned and regularly used an ANR headset from one of the major companies. I have always felt that the ANR effect of that headset was good, but not enough. However, I had nothing with which to compare it. Now I do. I think my old RST kit-built headset with your modification is what an ANR headset should be.

Hello Richard,
A short note to let you know that my headset has been delivered today.
I wanted to let you know how happy I am with the result. The quality of the modules of course but also for your flexibility (accepting to take over after I tried myself) and the quality of the work done by the technician in your company.
No doubt I will have questions about the kit in my club. It will be my pleasure give your information to those who will want to know more.
Thanks again. George

Dear Richard:

This is in response to our telephone call on January 18, 2010.
I installed the Headsets, Inc. noise reduction kit in the enclosed Avcomm stereo headset, sometime in 2003. It worked very well for four or five years, until the microphone stopped working. Finding a loose solder joint, I attempted to fix the unit without any luck (probably soldered it back to the wrong contact).
In any event, please let me know if you can repair these and what the approximate cost will be. In addition, if possible, I would very much appreciate if you could replace the cumbersome double-wired cable with the newer cable that consolidates all the wires into a single sheath.
Just FYI, I was extremely pleased with your company's product, and found its performance to be on par or superior to much higher-priced factory ENR headsets. I used them in a Pitts S2C, which I consider to be the ultimate test for ENR performance.

Sincerely,
David L. Brandon

I picked up a full conversion kit (M-01-A, AMP cable, gel seals) for my ancient H10-30s at Oshkosh
2006, and I can honestly say I've never been happier with a purchase. The installation went smoothly, only taking about half an hour (after I figured out how to get the AMP cable through the old DC strain relief) of actual work. Performance out of the box was incredible. My mutant -30s, with an older model electret mic purchased from you around 1994 and the shiny new ANR kit, are now the favorite headset of ..well...everyone I've ever let wear them. As an electrical engineer, I'm impressed with both the simplicity and effectiveness of the system, and as a former production type, I'm impressed with the construction and the ease of installation. The kit was worth every penny I paid for it, and a few more on top for the added safety factor (better intelligibility and less hearing damage). I've even tried wearing them while mowing the lawn, with very positive (quiet!) results, albeit some funny looks from the neighbors.
All in all, a class A product from a class A company. Thanks

Dear Michael,

I thought I'd give you some feedback on the EM-1 headset I bought from you per the recommendation below. As stated below I wear hearing aids with the headset and the Pilot headset left a lot to be desired. I've been very pleased with the EM-1. I haven't compared it to any other brands but it definitely outperforms the Pilot for me. I place my hearing aids in "telephone mode" to eliminate the feedback buzz in my hearing aids and then am able to utilize the EM-1 in the normal fashion with ANR. This has solved my problem and I'm very pleased with the EM-1. I haven't taken the Pilot out of the case since I got the EM-1.
Thanks for a great product.

Subject: Re: Headsets ANR System for Pilot Brand Headsets
Sir- yes, I think our system will work with the PA-1779, but the rechargeable batteries would have to come out of the earcup, and we would have to hard-wire the main audio cable to the headset. Also, the on/off switch would be moved from the earcup onto the battery box. Our battery box holds one 9 Volt battery, and lasts 15-20 hours. We also have an optional auto shut-off available. I think you would definitely notice an improvement in ANR, but the passive attenuation of that headset is not the best. Also, the installation would have to be done here at our factory. So you are looking at $169 for the kit, $50 for the install, $10 S&H, and $10 if you want the auto shut-off feature for a total of $239.00 and you would still have a relatively noisy headset with the ANR off. For a better solution, you might consider our EM-1 headset. At $399.00, it comes with two volume controls, noise canceling electret mic on a flexible goose-neck boom, stereo capability, a headset case, and the auto shut-off feature all included and it has some of the best passive attenuation characteristics of anything on the market. You can view more of the EM-1 at:

Re: Service/Repairs

I modified my David Clark H 10-40 Headset with your ANR kit in November 2001. Since then I have been highly satisfied with it.
I have well over 3000 hrs of usage with the unit. I have gone through several battery boxes with it. However, recently the unit wires are loose coming out of the sound settings piece.
I am shipping you the headset for repair - I enjoy using the modified David Clark H10-40 so much that I want to get it repaired so that I can enjoy more 1000s of hrs of use of the headset.

Dear Sir:
I am so glad I bought your headset.
Aside from comforting my hearing (not an inconsiderable fact, as my Sweet Little Wife is a world class audiologist), but the service that your company has given me has been truly outstanding.
When I bought the headset kit I was living in Switzerland. Your people helped me get the equipment through Swiss Customs. (Did you know that they will refuse to allow graham cracker crumbs through the mail?)
Last year I gave a talk on hearing protection for the aviator to the Somerset Senior Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, here in the Wilds of New Jersey. I used my David Clark conversion as an example.
Enclosed please find the cranky power supply (thinks new batteries are old). You haven't let me down!

Paige,

I'm really pleased with your EM-1 Aviation Headset. I never was very happy with my David Clark X11. The noise canceling was not very good, and the volume level (amplitude) was never good even at full volume.

I'm sending you the carrying case for the David Clark as I'm sure you would like to have it.

As you may recall, I have the Gentex helmet with noise canceling, but it has never worked very well in the noisy environment of my SNJ. I'm working on the solution you suggested (12 volts) but my solution may not be very graceful. If you come up with a 12 volt battery box, I would be very interested in that solution. We have two other T-28's and another SNJ here at Concord Regional Airport, and I'm sure those pilots would be very interested also.

Richard,

The headset is fantastic! I have flown about 7 hours in 3 different Cessna 180 float planes since I got the headset upgraded. These are VERY noisy aircraft and the headset makes a huge difference.
I flew with a student who has a D.C. X11 and we compared it with my upgraded Peltor 7004 and mine was quieter and has better clarity than his X 11.
I will be sending my other Peltor headset down along with a friends D.C. 10 series headset for upgrade in a couple of weeks when the seaplane season ends here in Canada.

I have your ANR installed in an HGU-55 (no individual volume knob) and it works great in my RV-7 high-noise environment. It may work too well though. I have a set of Bose X headsets for a passenger. If I turn up the intercom volume (PSEngineering 8000B) high enough for the passenger, it's way too loud for the HGU. Is there a way to install an in-line volume adjustment to the helmet?
Thanks,

Subject: Product assessment

Hi! I just wanted to send you a note about my experience with your headset kit. I put my kit in my Sigtronics S-58s and the installation went flawlessly. I tested the system at home by sticking my head, complete with headset of course, in front of our big house fan. I clicked it on and the low end frequencies went away just as described by the graphs.

The headsets work great and I'm greatly pleased. I sometimes turn the power off to remind myself of how much noise is being blocked. My only negative about the sound is when the noise reduction is on, the stereo perspective that one hears in the cockpit via ears (not stereo headsets) goes away, and all the sound is in the center of my head. Not a problem, but I was surprised.

For those that are afraid that one will not be able to hear the engine or whatever, that's not a problem. You still hear everything, only much quieter. I sometimes leave the ASOS playing over the cabin speaker, but maintain tower comm in the headsets, and I can hear the ASOS just fine.

Thanks again for a great product.

kit
I just bought another old dc 10-40 headset and decided to see if I could find your company and could not find it advertised in tradeaplane so I started looking through my storage area (I never throw anything away and once in every 10 years it pays off) I found the box that your kit came in for my original headset and sure enough everything was still in the box including the receipt. It is dated 11/2/01 and the price is exactly the same $169 hard to believe.... I just flew with it last week and it still performs as well if not better then my buddies Bose at $1000. My only complaint is that I forget to turn the unit off or sometimes the switch gets pushed back on in the headset case and the battery dies just when you need it ... I think you should make the auto off a standard feature rather than an upgrade option the PR alone would be worth it.... So I need to order another unit for my new old headset and I need to know what this AMP cable is all about ... I have told and demonstrated your unit at least a thousand times over the last eight years and every one that tries it loves it ... My nephew is now taking lessons and is looking for a dc to modify.... anyway call me and I will discuss what I need .
